Loek Quaedflieg is a professional mountain bike (MTB) rider known for his exceptional technical prowess and competitive spirit. Hailing from the Netherlands, Loek has made a name for himself in the MTB community through his victories in various national and international competitions.
Currently in Romania, Loek recently made a short trip at Muntele Mic. Last weekend, he experienced heli-biking in the Tarcu Mountains, taking his riding to new heights—literally. The stunning landscapes and challenging trails of the Tarcu Mountains provided Loek with a unique and unforgettable riding experience, further showcasing his passion and skill in mountain biking.
INTERVIEW W/ LOEK:
Can you tell us about your journey into mountain biking and what inspired you to start riding?
“Since I was a little kiddo I was obsessed with sports, I was really active.”
How did you find out about weRIDE Romania, and what made you decide to try the heli-biking experience in our country?
“Because of my friends; I was spending time with my good friend Christoph Baier from Action Cloud and one evening while having some drinks the theme Heli-biking popped up and it got me excited to try it out. I’m always in for new adventures!”
Have you had the opportunity to ride in Romania; how does the mountain biking experience here compare to other places you’ve ridden?
“Yes, I had the opportunity to ride in Romania at the Action Cloud (action camp) which is for my opinion the best one in Romania; compared to other places that I have ridden there are more bike parks and jumps but I’m sure in the very soon future Romania will get some of this too! And the tracks that we rode while we did the heli-bike were amazing and so pure they’re really nice and give you a very cool experience. I think everybody should try! ”
How was your experience at the CUBE Pump it Up Tour 2022, and what were some of the highlights for you?
“Actually it was my own project that I created together with Cube Bikes NL to teach the kids some bike techniques and ride with them. I could see that they had a really good time and that made me enjoy it very much.”
What are some of your favorite trails or locations to ride, and what makes them special to you?
“I come from Freestyle and Slopestyle so for this reason my favorite place to ride is La Poma Bike Park Barcelona and I like a lot riding the bike parks in Austria like Leogang Bike Park.”
What are your future goals in the mountain biking world, and are there any upcoming events or projects you’re particularly excited about?
“Yess! I’m very excited about what’s coming! I’m doing my first international event this year but I will announce more info about that next month, so keep your eyes on my Instagram page if you want to know more! Also, we are filming a new documentary next week with weRIDE ROMANIA and Heliski Romania that will be out in a few weeks. I am developing a clothing collection with Rehall Outerwear that fuses bikewear and streetwear, making waves in the bike scene as we work together to create something truly exceptional. I’m also working on many other projects behind the scenes to create something for our next generation and I’m involving myself in many different projects!”
